SBS 2011 Standard + Network License Manager + Freezing at System Settings tab

I just spent 1.5 hours troubleshooting this problem and here are the notes:

1.  Small Business Server 2011 Standard.  This is technically not supported and potentially, we could have thrown in the towel.

2.  Configured the Server exactly as noted in the Quick Start Guide for Windows:

3.  The problem is that the when you click on the System Settings tab, it would freeze lmtools.exe.  The only way to stop it was to use the Task Manager.

4.  When you click on the Perform Status Inquiry, it would mention various errors.  Depending on what was changed in the settings, it would be:  -97, -15, -13.

5.  The debug log and the Task Manager processes [adskflex.exe and 2 x lmgrd.exe] would indicate the the license server was running. In reality, the license server was not running.

6.  When you Google lmtools.exe and freezing at System Settings tab, it pointed to Data Execution Prevention [DEP] and Firewall Settings.  I would call this the proverbial wild goose chase.

The solution in this case was to simply update the Network License Manager to the IPv6 version.  Once this was done, the System Settings tab didn't freeze or lockup and everything behaved perfectly.

Thanks to Amy Biedenkapp for confirming that this was indeed the problem.

Using Moldflow 2013 with a Moldflow 2014 License

As you know, when you have Moldflow 2014 on Subscription, you can run the current version and 3 versions back.  i.e. 2014-2011

When you are running Moldflow 2013 and you are connecting to a license server with Moldflow 2014 product, you may get the following error:

** ERROR 99998 ** Required license for AMI_STANDARD is not available, or all licenses are currently in use or the product you have installed is not licensed to run this feature.

You will need to request the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight Premium 2013 license.  Below is a sample license file for Moldflow 2014.

To request a license online, please reveiw this blog post:

Bonus Tip:

The AutoCAD Raster Design 2014 product included in Localized Autodesk Product Design Suite 2014 is in English version.

This issue is reproducible for all flavours of Localized Autodesk Product Design Suite 2014 product affecting following languages: Japanese, German, French and Italian.

  1. Please download the complete Product Design suite from the subscription centre.
  2. If this is not feasible download the complete suite, please follow the work around.
    1. Uninstall English AutoCAD Raster Design 2014 product.
    2. Download required language of AutoCAD Raster Design 2014 product from Trial Site:
    3. Install localized AutoCAD Raster Design 2014 product and activate it using Autodesk Product Design Suite 2014 product Key.

Showcase 2014 + Windows 7 x64 + SERIALNUM Error

This is an interesting error message that has happened before with Inventor but now it is happening with Showcase 2014.

An Autodesk product failed to send the required value for SERIALNUM
The error report sent to Autodesk may be incomplete.

To quickly resolve the issue, just check out this blog post:

Simulation Jobs and Licensing User

Autodesk Simulation software (CFD,Moldflow etc.) which has local solver service installed, would be requesting the license as a System account.

If you need to control license usage on username you could change login user for the simulation service and then creation the license option file accordingly.

In order to change the username please follow the steps below.

Start ->Run/Search->Type services.msc->click OK.

Double Click the service related the simulation

Click on Log on.

Choose This Account

Type your user name and password. Please note you will need to update the password, when you change the logon password.

Thanks David Lau for requesting for this post.

Maya 2014 on Mac: Error 41 + The product will not start.

If you install Maya 2014 on the Mac and you get a Error 41. It means that you don't have a Productinformation.pit file.  For some reason, it is note being created.

The file is hidden in the following directory:

/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/.config

Please update and add full permissions to this folder:

sudo chmod -R 777 /Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/.config

Then you will need to register the product manually:

Using a Maya Creation Suite, open a terminal and type:

sudo adlmreg -i S 657F1 793F1 2014.0.0.F 377-######## /Library/Application\ Support/Autodesk/Adlm/PIT/2014/MayaConfig.pit

NOTE:  377-######## = Your actual serial number.

Using Maya:  open a terminal and type:

sudo adlmreg -i S 657F1 657F1 2014.0.0.F 377-######## /Library/Application\ Support/Autodesk/Adlm/PIT/2014/MayaConfig.pit

NOTE:  377-######## = Your actual serial number.

Thanks to Lap Ho for helping me on this interesting problem & Steven Weitz for confirming the hack fixed the problem.

Solidworks + Simulation CFD + SimCFDConfig

To configure the CAD Connections to Simulation CFD, we would use SimCFDConfig.exe.  Please check out the documentation notes here:

What happens if you can't highlight the 3rd party CAD Connection when running SimCFDConfig or the target CAD application doesn't have Simulation CFD tab? Please check out the workflow to resolve the issue below:

1.  Open a command prompt and Run as Administrator.  i.e. Right mouse click on cmd.exe.

2.  Navigate to the Launcher folder.  It will be in the CFD flavour that you have.  i.e. CFD or CFD 360.

3. In the command prompt, type:

cd "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Simulation CFD 2014\Launchers\SolidWorks"

regsvr32 SimCFD_2014_SolidWorks.dll

NOTE:  This Command Prompt is running as Administrator (as noted in Step 1).

4. Launch Solidworks and confirm the CFD connection.

Thanks to Todd Alford for the tip and Krian Kambly for confirming that it worked.

Deployment + Infrastructure Design Suite Standard + Storm & Sanitary Analysis

As some of you know, we have recently added Storm and Sanitary Analysis to Map 3D 2014 via a download in the Subscription Center which is great, but how do you add it to a deployment for installation?

1.  Create a deployment for the Suite and goto the option to Include additional software and expand it.

2.  You can browse and select the MSI for the SSA standalone and add it on to the deployment and it seems to take it. The problem is the deployment only copies in the install MSI file into the ADDINS folder. i.e.  \Img\ADDONS\ADDON_SSA STAND-ALONE 2014 X86_0.

3.  The problem is that installer has associated cab files that it needs to run. You can see them in the extracted installer downloaded from Subscription Center. In order for the deployment to be able to successfully install the SSA addon you will need to manually copy in all the CAB files from the downloaded install folder into the folder in the deployment. i.e. \Img\ADDONS\ADDON_SSA STAND-ALONE 2014 X86_0.

Thanks to Jeff Asbury for sharing this workaround with the community!

Autodesk Licensing Error with Autodesk Fabrication CADmep 2013

You have an AutoCAD 2013 vertical products as network and want to run it in conjunction with Autodesk Fabrication CADmep 2013 standalone, this configuration will cause an Autodesk Licensing Error.

CADmep standalone licenses can be used when AutoCAD has been licensed using a stand-alone or to retain the network license's conveniences of AutoCAD vertical product, you can request Autodesk Fabrication CADmep license to be converted from standalone to network license.

Having both software as whether “Standalone” or “Network” version will solve the license error issue.

Thanks to Nicholas Hyland for this alternative.
