Autodesk Education Master Suite 2014 + CAD Manager Tools

Just a FAQ on this problem:

We have posted a fix here:

The AKN article IS refreshed (it's done) but it takes a bit of time for the solution to refresh externally. Thanks to the all involved to get this published ASAP.

As of 9:36 pm EST, the download link is now in the AKN article!

Your License is no longer available.

We had few reports regarding 2014 version of Autodesk products unable regain license after timeout.

User gets following error after certain period of inactivity. If the user restarts the application the licensing would work normally.

This issue is related local borrow cache in the registry, which is not deleted on expiry of borrowed license. If users return borrowed licenses earlier than the expiry date/time (Midnight) this error will not occur.

  • Return the borrowed license prior to the expiry date/time (Midnight)
  • Delete the following registry key if the borrowed license has expired automatically.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\Borrow]

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at ef86cfch + Desktop Subscription Licenses

A little bit of luck is required when troubleshooting problems.  In this case, it was the dreaded FATAL ERROR.

FATAL ERROR:  Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at ef86cfch

You will notice a login window above the error dialog box that indicates that this is a Desktop Subscription [aka Rental or META] product.

The solution was easy, we needed to uncheck all items under Automatic configuration under the Local Area (LAN) settings [Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings]:

It is a part of the troubleshooting steps noted here:

Thanks to Andy Lempera for confirming that this tip worked.

Tip: Browser Download File Sizes - Error: File Corrupted Error

If you have chosen the Browser Download option of our software from the Subscription Center and there are multiple parts, all the parts must be 4 GB in size [3.9 Download in your browser but 4.1 GB on your hard drive] except for the LAST part.

If the part is not 4 GB in size, you will get the following error when trying to extract the installation files:

Error File Corrupted Error

This is the actual file size of each part based on downloading an Autodesk Suite using Google Chrome:

This is the actual size of each part that will cause the error.  Because the first 2 parts are not 4 GB in size, the extraction will fail.

Tip:  Downloading Software: Suites + Internet Explorer + Pop-up's

In some instances, the downloaded files may not have an extension and it will look like a blank sheet of paper, you may need to add an .exe to the end of them.

Inventor 2015 startup crashes

This is an issue we are seeing with few users trying to launch Inventor 2015

The crash is caused by the following registry key missing from the users system:

The product never launches but instead goes directly to the CER dialog.

If you are experiencing the same problem after having installed Inventor 2015, please try the solution below.

The solution requires admin privileges:

  1. Download this zip file and extract it to the user machine
  2. Rename the file from .txt  to .reg
  3. Double-click on the file
  4. Inventor 2015 should now be able to start

The first update to 2015 should take care of this once it’s available.

Thanks to Mike Dickason for having provided the solution.

Inventor 2015 + French Language Pack

We have alerted Inventor Development/QA teams regarding the French Language Pack installation for Inventor 2015 that can be downloaded here:

If you right mouse click on the grey bar, the contextual menu is German.

Thanks to Eric Paris for alerting us of the issue.

AutoCAD LT 2014 not launching...

In this epsiode of troubleshooting, the issue is that the software basically starts, splash screen shows up and then disappears. In the event viewer, there is an exception code: 0xc0000005.  This is not a very helpful error message.  We even tried looking at promcon files and it didn't point to anything relevant.

One variable that helped us figure out the probelm was that that it worked as an administrator but not as a user [administrator] account. We even try to reset AutoCAD back to default.

The proverbial hail mary is to backup, then remove this key:

Once this key is removed, the software should started in the problematic account.

I would like to thank John Kaiser for sharing this tip with the community.

Open Light 2015 Object Enabler and installing on AutoCAD Family of products

In the Readme notes, it is only designed for the 2015 German releases of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Map 3D, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

If you want to evaluate this add in, you can edit the following registry key to install it.

Then change the value noted below:

English languge value is: 409
German language value is: 407

Thanks to the Development team for assistance on this problem.

Tip: Using the Search Filter in the Control Panel to uninstall Products

Finally, after a couple of years of supporting our products, I have now need to uninstall some Autodesk products. Starting in 2014, we created a quick Autodesk Uninstall Tool to perform this action which was easy.  To help with uninstalling older products, you can use the search filter in the Program & Features Control Panel to rifle through the task of uninstalling older versions of our software.  In the example below, I just used the the year [2011] as a filter.
