Application Manager Update

AutoCAD Architecture + AutoCAD MEP + Microsoft Update = Crash [Resolved]

[Resolved]: Microsoft has released an Internet Explorer Update (2987107) to resolve this issue.

There have been reports of AutoCAD Architecture 2014 & AutoCAD MEP 2014 having some stability issues.

  • Crashing when switching projects via Project Browser.
  • Crashing when accessing the Structural Member Catalog or the catalog appears blank.

Issues began after installing last week’s Microsoft update  (July 8, 2014):

  • MS14-037: Security update for Internet Explorer versions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11.

To solve this problem, you may need to uninstall the update.

Autodesk Network License Manager 11.12 and other products using Flexera licensing technology

I have noticed that when using Autodesk Network License Manager 11.12, you may need to customize OUR license files to use the non default licensing ports.

For example, when configuring Autodesk licensing service with Foundry, ArcGIS or CamWorks, Solidworks you will need to edit our license files to use a differnet port for lmgrd.exe. i.e. 27000 (default) to 27001

A sample is below:

SERVER TOR2UA13809X0 3CD92B5B4B2E 27001
VENDOR adskflex port=2080

For ArcGIS or Solidworks 2015, you also need to use the 32 bit version of the Autodesk Network License Manager.

Finally, if you are using Autodesk and Abaqus software in your company, you will need to even customize the adskflex.exe port (2080) in our license file because of the following conflict:

Abaqus CAE-port

We recently found out that Avaya software uses Flexera software for licensing and it's also 32 bit.  It's is best to use the Autodesk licensing software as 32 bit so that you can see the settings for both services and customize Autodesk products to use port 27001.

How do you configure Autodesk products on the Mac to be licensed using a redundant license server?

If you are installing Autodesk products for the Mac, you will notice that you don't have a redundant license server option.

To configure your software to use a redundant server, please check out the solution below:

AutoCAD 2015 + Dell M6800 = Slow video performance

This was an interesting scenario, we had identical Dell M6800 Workstations.  The system specs are below:

  • Dell M6800 with Nvidia Quadro K4100M/ Intel HD Graphics 4600 with Nvidia Graphics Driver 332.21.

When running AutoCAD 2015,  one of the systems would have some display issues.  It would leave image trails and the performance is very slow with hardware acceleration ON.

The solution was to use a beta driver from Nvidia:

Quick Start: Communication Failure with Install Now

Here are some known issues that will cause a Communication Failure when installing Autodesk software when using the Install Now option.

1.  Port Security and Internet Speed

2.  Double clicking on the dowloaded installer (pointer) file.

3.  Running Setup.exe from the "wi" folder.

Options File - Should I use PACKAGE or FEATURE (Component)?

I have created this video in a previous blog post on how to create an options file for your license server:

One of the questions we get is which part of the license code can we use to get an options file to work correctly. The answer is noted in the License Administration.pdf located In C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager folder.

If you go to Chapter 13 Managing the Options File >  Table 13.2, you will notice the following:

This means that with the FEATURE (COMPONENTS) of the license file is to be used to get this option work correctly.

In Table 13-3, you will notice the following:

This means that with the PACKAGE or FEATURE (COMPONENTS) of the license file is to be used to get this option work correctly.

Please note that there we have 2 types of licenses the the system will generate, Subscription and Non-Subscription.  The Subscription licenses have PACKAGE in them to support the current version and 3 versions back [2015-2012] and the non-Subscription will only support 1 version.  The easiest way to extract the license code is to use the license parser.
