Including Newest Autodesk Application Manager During Install

ApplicationManager

With the release of version 5 of Autodesk Application Manager a few weeks ago, we've started getting questions about including the new version when you either install or create a deployment for an Autodesk product. The version that gets installed by default is version 4, and you then need to download version 5 from within Autodesk Application Manager. That's not a huge deal if you're only installing the software on one computer, but it can be a gigantic headache if you're deploying to hundreds of computers.

This article shows how to include version 5 during the install / deployment creation process:

Establish an Internet Connection to Continue (Reprise)

I'm starting to have nightmares where a huge creature is chasing me through a dark forest. I can hear it behind me, laughing maniacally as it crushes trees in its relentless pursuit. Just when I think I'm about to escape, I trip over a root and go sprawling on my face. As I brace for the horror I know I'm about to experience, the stench of the beast's hot breath filling my nostrils as it moves in for the kill, I glance behind me and see this:

EstablishInternetConnection

Ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. But the "Establish an internet connection to continue" error has been causing us grief for a while. Not only is it poorly worded (99% of the time the internet connection works just fine, as customers are very happy to tell us), but there are also several things that can cause the error, making it an absolute joy to troubleshoot.

Brad Hurley, one of the tenacious troubleshooters on the Autodesk Installation & Licensing team, found another potential cause for the error. It turns out that if "Use SSL 3.0" is unchecked it can cause the error.

Maya Install Error: Access is denied.

We recently got this error when installing Maya 2016 and the error was not very useful because it was not a permissions issue.  The installation was only problematic on one of the workstations and the deployment had worked on other computers at this site.  We even tried a direct install from setup.exe from the C:\Autodesk folder.

Maya-Access-is-Denied

In this case, we used Process Monitor to check out the problem and we used the same exact workflow as this issue:

http://upandready.typepad.com/up_and_ready/2013/09/revit-crash-at-startup.html

It stated that there was a problem with the installation of Bifrost, one of the components of Maya 2016.

Bi-frost-avg

When I remoted into the computer, I saw an AVG icon on the desktop of the computer. AVG has been known to cause installation issues.  Sometimes, you can disable it to solve the problem but sometimes, you need to uninstall it.

Uninstall AVG

The answer [Uninstall AVG] to this issue is noted in this article:

Thanks to Scott Broad for confirming that this was the issue.
