In some instances, when installing Autodesk software, you may get a .NET 3.5 error on Windows 8 as noted in the log file:
2013/9/9:10:22:30 todd TODD PageOpen FullProgressDialog
2013/9/9:10:22:30 todd TODD Installing .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1: "E:\3rdParty\NET\35SP1\wcu\dotNetFramework\Install35Net.exe"
2013/9/9:10:24:20 todd TODD Install .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1 Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603
When installing the software, the wizard will attempt to install .NET 3.5 and during the progress of that component, it will cause the entire Autodesk Product or Suite to fail.
To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below:
1. Search for the the Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > Check on .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes 2.0 and 3.0).
2. In some instances, during the update, you may get this Error code: 0x800F0906. Close the error dialog box.
3. You will need to have your Windows 8 media ready and follow the steps noted in this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:

Thanks to David Dembkoski and Todd St. John for confirming that this solution worked.

Please check the Comments section to see the note about the Group Policy workaround.
You can also run into this problem (the second part, The feature could not be installed) if you have WSUS running on your network.
Use this KB to create a Group Policy workaround:

I've run into this a couple times now and this fixed it for me. (I allowed direct access to Windows Update for repair/reinstall)
