Installing .NET 3.5 on Windows 8 with Autodesk Products

In some instances, when installing Autodesk software, you may get a .NET 3.5 error on Windows 8 as noted in the log file:

2013/9/9:10:22:30 todd TODD PageOpen FullProgressDialog
2013/9/9:10:22:30 todd TODD Installing .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1: "E:\3rdParty\NET\35SP1\wcu\dotNetFramework\Install35Net.exe" 2013/9/9:10:24:20 todd TODD Install .NET Framework Runtime 3.5 SP1 Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603

When installing the software, the wizard will attempt to install .NET 3.5 and during the progress of that component, it will cause the entire Autodesk Product or Suite to fail.

To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below:

1. Search for the the Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > Check on .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes 2.0 and 3.0).

2. In some instances, during the update, you may get this Error code: 0x800F0906.  Close the error dialog box.

You can also run into this problem (the second part, The feature could not be installed) if you have WSUS running on your network.
